About Us

At the SVP, we aim to seek, find and help those in need.

Loving our neighbour is at the heart of this aim, which we fulfil in different ways, including person-to-person visiting and taking people to Mass.

Monthly Church collections, other donations and gift aid also mean we can offer financial support. We are not able to give cash but can provide vouchers for food, clothing, as well as direct payments towards household bills and buying furniture.

Regular support elsewhere includes purchasing:

  • Clothing for the Whitechapel homeless centre.

  • Food and drink for those living on the streets in Liverpool via the Missionaries of Charity in Seel Street, also necessary items for the local food bank and Jospice summer events.

  • Christmas hampers and toys, Easter eggs for Liverpool families via Nugent.

  • Vouchers for Asylum Link Merseyside.

Weekly collections of surplus food are made from Waterfields for the Missionaries of Charity; similarly, donations from St Helen’s and St Joseph’s parishes are taken to the food bank.

Help is provided to various projects in Malawi, Uganda and Kenya, as well as the local Ukrainian Welcome Centre.

Support is also given to several wider SVP activities, such as our twinned conferences in India, disaster fund appeals and a holiday camp for disadvantaged Liverpool children.

We usually meet every fortnight on a Monday at St Joseph’s presbytery, starting at 7.30pm

Please contact the parish office, based at St Helen’s, in person or by phone on 0151 924 3417, if you know of someone who we might be able to help or would like to join our group.
