Music at St Helen's

St Helen’s church is very fortunate in offering a wide variety of music to enhance the worship for our congregations.

Services typically follow a pattern of two traditional hymns played on the pipe organ by Mike Foy and two more contemporary hymns led by Joe Coyne with the guitar.

On the second Sunday of each month, we usually have a vocal / instrumental soloist from our community to provide reflective music before the service and during communion.

In addition, we have close links with Crosby Community Choir who sing at Mass on the fourth Sunday of each month, and they also provide the music at Choral Evening Prayer three times each year, as well as a programme of extra services and concerts, particularly at Christmas, Easter and in the Summer.

Crosby Community Choir also organise and fund our annual Music Festival which sees solo and ensemble musicians from our region give professional standard performances of quality music.

We are currently developing a Youth choir as part of Crosby Community Choir who will sing in church on a regular basis, following the Royal School of Church Music ‘Voice for Life’ awards scheme, The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music Theory Grade Examinations, and are an accredited provider for Sefton Children’s University

Music Festival

Crosby community choir organise and fund an annual Music Festival. This takes place between both St Helen’s and St Joseph’s Churches starting on the last Friday in June and continuing every Wednesday and Friday evenings throughout July.

The aim is to provide a platform for local musicians to perform in our buildings and our parishioners the opportunity to access professional standard music-making at a very small cost.
